Fall 2016 Communications and Organizing Internship

 

 

 

Position: Communications and Organizing Intern

Location: Grand Junction, Colorado

Deadline for submission: Friday, August 19th

Term of Position: 3 – 4 months

Work Schedule: 15-20 hours/week, flexible schedule.

Compensation: Unpaid

 

 

The Communications and Organizing Intern will work in the Grand Junction Field Office to help communicate the importance of conservation issues to the public while assisting our community organizing efforts in support of priority campaigns.. He or she will be managed by a Field Organizer in our Grand Junction office and will be part of the broader statewide organizing team.

 

The Communications and Organizing Intern will primarily be responsible for developing a visual narrative via  photographs, videos, and diverse, local stories around the importance of protecting  our land, air, and water on the Western Slope of Colorado. Responsibilities of this position also include public outreach via event planning and attendance, phone calls, and media work to help recruit volunteers, supporting regional election work, and utilizing our membership database to track and engage new and existing members.

Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado’s environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation-minded policy makers.

 

We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses and other allies, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the region. This coming year we will be tackling everything from finalizing Colorado’s state water plan and ensuring the passage of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, to moving key public lands and wilderness bills that will protect iconic places across Colorado.

 

Position Requirements - The Communications and Organizing Intern must be:

 

     Willing to travel and have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle. This position requires extensive travel across the Grand Junction and SW CO landscape.

     Well-organized. This position requires balancing multiple complex responsibilities simultaneously

     A “people-person.” This person must be very comfortable and willing to contact and speak with strangers over the phone, through email, and in person.

     Creative. In order to develop unique narratives that resonate with people in Western Colorado, this individual must be able to think strategically and creatively.

     An excellent communicator. This individual must be able to effectively communicate ideas in a succinct and engaging manner both verbally and in writing.

     Self-motivated and accountable. This intern must be able to initiate and complete projects without constant direct supervision.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Intern will gain direct experience working with professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. Intern will have the opportunity to network at various political and environmental events throughout the course of the internship. No cash stipend or benefits are available; however, letters of recommendation will be available upon request. Opportunities for full-time employment at Conservation Colorado do occasionally occur and interns are eligible to apply.
