Job description: Media Outreach Director
Looking for a
high-performing individual to help us plan and manage our broadcast media
pitching and booking operation.
You will be
responsible for maximizing our team’s potential, using leading edge contact management
and targeting tools to craft and implement outreach plans for a
progressive/center-left client base. You will coordinate and strategize with our project partners and direct
a small team of specialists in their daily efforts to contact and engage
broadcast journalists in targeted markets throughout the USA.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and direct multi-market television and radio outreach plans each day, that result in broadcast interviews in targeted markets
- Effectively engage
journalists, for the purpose of scheduling effective, timely and interesting
on-air interviews
- Manage and motivate a
team of 4-5 Media Outreach Specialists, plus a Radio Production Coordinator as
they implement your plan, and provide ongoing direction and guidance
- Develop pitches and
work collaboratively with other managers to capture and analyze key metrics,
assess results and devise new ways to optimize every aspect of the
operation
- Train and recruit any
unfilled positions on the team, as needed
Requirements:
- Proven ability to
manage and lead a team, with excellent coaching, mentoring and people
management skills
- Previous experience in
press relations, journalism, communications or sales (television broadcast
experience a plus)
- Strong sense of the
news-worthiness or journalistic value of a given topic, subject or content
- Ability to maintain
a cool, level and positive focus when working in the often
fast-paced, time-constrained arena of live television and radio
- Proven ability to present
results to managers and team partners, with analysis and recommendations
- Willingness to work
some early mornings, and some weekends, along with other members of the team
The initial project will be 6-8 weeks, and may get extended. The
position is based in Washington, DC.
