Senior Strategic Writer
The Bonner Group seeks a politically savvy, detail-oriented, and results-driven Senior Strategic Writer to support the fundraising efforts of the nation’s premier progressive organizations, including media watchdog, Media Matters for America.

The Bonner Group is a Washington, D.C.- based progressive non-profit and Democratic political fundraising firm. Over the past 18 years, the Bonner Group has worked for presidential, House & Senate, and gubernatorial campaigns; ballot initiatives; and some of the most prominent and effective progressive organizations across the country.
Job Responsibilities
Our full-time Senior Strategic Writer will help us build financial support for Media Matters for America and its sister organizations, which include Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), The American Independent Institute, and The Franklin Forum, by:
· Writing and editing grant proposals and narrative reports for funders, and supervising the approval process to ensure alignment across teams and departments.
· Working closely with the leaders and staff at each organization to refine goals and objectives and identify stories that best illustrate the work.
· Maintaining a sophisticated understanding of all grant-supported projects and programs—including issues related to climate change, LGBT equality, gun violence prevention, civil rights, civic engagement, and other issues.
· Staying current on news topics and each how organization’s work plays a unique and critical role in shaping the broader political, policy, and media landscape.
· Managing a grant writer whose responsibilities include:
o Writing proposals, grant reports, and other materials for funders.
o Administrative tasks such as capturing donations in an online database, tracking and logging grant letters, managing the grants deadline calendar, drafting donor correspondence, managing mailing projects, and fulfilling donors' requests.
Qualifications
· Excellent writing skills: Strong technical and rhetorical writing skills and demonstrated ability to write under tight deadlines. Must have an eye for detail. Diverse range is critical - must be able to write about the big picture and clearly discuss specific programmatic activities. Must have prior experience writing successful development materials, such as grant proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry.
· Results-driven: Flexible and organized, with a history of executing effectively even in the face of obstacles.
· Strong political instincts: In-depth knowledge of politics, the media and how information travels through it, and policy issues shaping these landscapes.
· Communications-savvy and collaborative spirit: Proven ability to clearly communicate with a variety of personalities and generate buy-in among senior and project staff to move work forward on writing projects.
We are most interested in these four qualities, but anticipate candidates will have at least three years of relevant development writing experience.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience.
