Hello, It’s been another busy week in the progressive political world - with little time to rest since the elections. We want to start by sending out our heartfelt wishes to those in Colorado affected by yet another mass shooting and those hurt by hate crimes - and yet even as we write this we are learning about another mass shooting in Virginia. We must fight easy access to dangerous weapons and create an unprecedented demand for more action. We cannot stand by and simply be numb. We were all verklempt last week about the announcement from the Democratic House Leadership. I want to praise and share our gratitude with immense respect for Speaker Nancy Pelosi - she is the GOAT Democratic leader of any gender - and such an extraordinary trailblazer and inspiration for women in particular. She demonstrates once again true leadership and grace in stepping aside for the next generation to lead our party in Congress. And I can’t miss also acknowledging long time Majority Leader and number two in the house Leader Steny Hoyer. A little known fact about me - I have served as Leader Hoyer’s campaign and leadership PAC treasurer for more than 20 years now and he has been one of our most consistent long-time supporters of our trainings, career center and other events. We’ll miss them both leading our party but are so excited to see a younger generation step up and lead now.
As we head into this holiday season and week, we want to acknowledge that Thanksgiving day is complicated for many as it is celebrated 400 years after what most of us were taught was the first Thanksgiving. Most of us were taught a whitewashed false history of origin. For many Indigenous people, today is a day of mourning the genocide of their people and the stealing of their lands, not a celebration. We want to acknowledge that and be an active part of correcting how our history is taught. We also appreciate and wish to join in celebrating the most positive elements of the traditions of this day, and that is gratitude and Thanksgiving. We hope many are taking time to be together with family and friends. Where or however you spend this day - we hope you get some rest and take time to appreciate those you love. We want to share our thankfulness for our community of users. In these difficult times, we are grateful for your passionate activism and advocacy. We are thankful to our Democratic leaders for working so hard to fight attacks on our democracy, women’s health, gun control, and more. We are grateful to so many candidates for putting themselves on the lines to fight for the best for our country and also to the thousands of organizations who work to elect them and hold them accountable. At GAIN Power, we focus on marketing and networking talent with each other and the organizations that impact our democracy, elections, and advocacy. We’re so grateful for each and every one of you.
