A political consulting firm in Westchester County, NY is seeking a Fall Field Associate to help manage and oversee field operations for a number of Democratic candidates for local and County office. This position entails a mix of volunteer management and paid canvass management and recruitment; it is primarily a management and organizing position, though the Associate will be expected to canvass on occasion and as required. The position is open for immediate hire, and will be paid through November 15. Compensation is based on experience, and is highly competitive.

An ideal candidate would have served as one of the following: a paid field organizer for a campaign similar in size and scope to a Congressional Campaign for at least one cycle; as a Field Director for a local campaign; or as a deputy canvass director or canvass director. The formal qualifications are:

  • Experience training and supervising volunteers and/or paid canvassers. Experience in suburban or small urban settings a major plus.
  • The ability to impart complicated concepts quickly and concisely.
  • The ability to juggle and prioritize work on behalf of multiple candidates simultaneously.
  • The ability to work independently and creatively to achieve general campaign goals. We want someone who can come up with a plan, not just execute one, and is eager to advance and learn.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and computer literate. A working knowledge of VAN is a major plus but not a requirement.
  • Have prior paid campaign experience. Candidates with exemplary and outstanding experience on a volunteer level may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will primarily be to:

  • Create and implement recruitment strategies for paid canvassers. You will have a great deal of hiring and firing authority.
  • Create walk or call lists and volunteer schedules, and run volunteer training sessions.
  • Train and monitor the progress of new canvassers and volunteers, including ongoing data validation.
  • Keep records to allow other staff to quickly process weekly payroll. Help set specific canvass budgets and stick to them.
