DIGITAL MANAGERASJ is hiring a full-time Digital Manager to manage the organization’s digital presence and lead its expansion of a online platform to connect and support crime survivors in key states and nationwide and help amplify their voices in dialogues around crime and safety. The Digital Manager will provide strategic direction for the organization’s website, social media presence, and creation of high-impact digital content (e.g., videos, memes, infographics, etc.). The Digital Manager will work closely with a collaborative, high-impact team in a start-up organizational culture, reporting to the National Communications Director.
Position Overview:
ASJ seeks a creative, innovative, experienced digital strategist with big ideas and a proven track record of building and empowering communities online, successfully sharing messages through a range of digital channels, engaging new supporters, and deepening organizational reach online. The Digital Manager will join a fast-paced team of policy and program staff and consultants working to reform state criminal justice policy and transform the national dialogue on crime and incarceration. The Digital Manager will focus on implementing the digital strategy for a national launch of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice, a national network of crime victims, and maintain and grow ASJ’s presence online through social media and paid media.
Primary responsibilities:
- Lead ASJ’s online community-building and digital advocacy efforts, particularly as it relates to the Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice (CSSJ) network
- Spearhead the development and implementation of a robust web platform to organize and amplify the voices of crime survivors in state and national criminal justice debates
- Develop and implement a “Crime Survivors Speak” media campaign, including the development of story banking, digital storytelling and compelling social and digital media content to reframe the narrative around crime survivors, public safety, healing, and stigma
- Conceptualize and execute other high-impact visual and digital storytelling projects
- Design and implement a wide range of digital strategies (including video and infographics) to grow and engage ASJ’s supporters, influence policymakers, and raise the organization’s profile
- Liaise with and/or manage vendors and contractors on social media, website, and digital projects
- Develop metrics for success for digital and social media efforts, including metrics specifically related to narrative-shifting and elevating the voices of crime survivors in the national dialogue on crime and incarceration
- Develop and implement a plan for state “member” outreach, including email blasts, newsletters and/or blog
- Oversee, update and maintain the organization’s websites and social media accounts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 4 years of professional experience in online community management, communications, digital advocacy, and/or online organizing
- Strong project management experience (overseeing website development/redesign a plus)
- Prior experience managing or working closely with contractors to develop or maintain websites or online advocacy and list-building campaigns
- Familiarity with criminal justice issues preferred, but not required
- Experience working with diverse communities and a deep commitment to social and racial justice
- Strong experience leading digital campaigns (online advocacy, social media, paid media, etc.) and managing communities online
- Ability to gather helpful insights from Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, and other analytics tools
- Ability to frame ideas and synthesize complex policy issues to inform and persuade a range of audiences
- Ability to translate complex ideas and policy issues into accessible and compelling digital content
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively and listen and learn from feedback
- Ability to thrive in a busy, multi-tasking, and time-pressured environment
- Excellent writing skills and verbal communications skills
- Proficiency using office productivity software, including Microsoft Office
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with constituent relationship management and/or digital advocacy tools like Blue State Digital, Salsa, Convio, NGP, Action Kit, MobileCommons, Hustle, ControlShift, etc.
- Experience with WordPress and/or other website content management systems
- Experience with sophisticated audience segmentation and targeting, in political, non-profit, and/or corporate context
- Graphic design and/or video editing experience, including familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign

RESEARCH MANAGER:
ASJ is hiring a full-time Research Manager to conduct rapid response research and policy analysis for the organization as it engages in political and policy debates in key states and at the national level. The Research Manager will work with a collaborative, high-impact team in a start-up organizational culture, reporting to the National Communications Director, helping shape overall campaign strategy development, and working closely with the President and Vice President of the organization.
The Research Manager will be responsible for advancing the campaign goals through research and crafting issue briefs and reports, tracking and analyzing key issues in state criminal justice systems, as well as sentencing and corrections data, and managing research contracts and strategic partnerships with experts and others. The Research Manager will support overall campaign strategy development and work collaboratively with the campaign team on a daily basis.
Position Overview:ASJ seeks an experienced researcher to join a fast-paced team working to reform state criminal justice policy and transform the national dialogue on crime and incarceration. This individual will work within the communications department and across the organization to ensure that organizational strategy reflects up-to-date research and best practices.
Primary responsibilities:
- Conduct rapid response research for campaign strategy development, op-eds and other communications materials, legislative advocacy, and development proposals and reports
- Track emerging trends in correctional populations, both state and national, as well as sentencing, community supervision practices, incentives-based funding structures, rights restoration, and other areas of focus for ASJ’s state-based campaigns
- Maintain up-to-date and in-depth expertise in research related to recidivism reduction and sentencing policy, including alternatives to incarceration, with an ability to turn that expertise into short written briefs and fact sheets
- Analyze the drivers of incarceration in target states and estimate the impact of proposed policy changes
- Help identify earned media opportunities and advise on messages, tactics, and facts to best leverage those opportunities
- Lead research, drafting and editing processes for reports, memos, and policy briefs focused on best practices in criminal justice, treatment and prevention and health-based approaches
- Support the research efforts of state-based partners including assisting with research design, analysis, and product review
- Track and monitor changes in local criminal justice policies and practices, with particular focus on OH, MI, FL, IL, TX, KY, and LA
- Develop and leverage strategic relationships with state-based advocacy partners, experts, and academic researchers to advance research goals
- Liaise with and/or manage vendors and contractors on research projects and reports
- Work closely with the National Communications Director to develop research-tested messages and Q&A documents for staff and leaders
- Present research and data to internal and external audiences and stakeholders
Qualifications:
