In this Labor Day week, we honor and thank our brothers and sisters in the Labor Movement—not only for bringing us many of the rights we have today—such as a 40 hour work week, the weekend, and putting an end to child labor, but we thank and honor them as they work to bring critical safety measures to our essential workers during this pandemic and beyond. Whether that is fighting for PPE for our front line workers, advocating for smaller class sizes, or working for a secure retirement—the Labor movement has our backs and we will have theirs.

This week we're thrilled to announce Carrie Pugh of the National Education Association will be joining us on Thursday, September 10th at 5pm ET to discuss her career path, her advice for working in Progressive politics, and the Labor movement.

Carrie is the Senior Director of Campaigns & Elections for the National Education Association. She has led NEA’s political department since 2015. The NEA is the nation’s largest union, with 3 million members who live in every single congressional district in the country. She leads the NEA’s state and national political strategy, member engagement, ballot initiatives, independent expenditures, and state legislative campaigns. With nearly three decades of electoral, community organizing, and intergovernmental experience, Pugh has served as a key behind the scenes catalyst in shaping progressive infrastructure across the country.

Prior to joining NEA in 2007, Pugh spent more than six years at the Service Employees International Union, serving as the national field director and Midwest political director. In 2001, she worked on the Democratic National Committee’s redistricting project. She previously held numerous positions including in community organizing and advocacy for immigrant and refugee rights.

She is a DNC Member from the District of Columbia and serves as the Vice Chair of the DNC Labor Council. She is an officer of the DNC Women’s Caucus. Carrie also serves as the Chair of the Board of the New American Majority Fund, a project of the Democracy Alliance. She is on the boards of Progress Now, AAPI Progressive Action, the Democratic Attorneys General Association, and the Democracy Alliance’s State Victory Fund Investment Committee.
