Platform Campaign Manager

Time and again, MoveOn has changed the face of American politics by harnessing the power of the Internet and our millions of members. We’ve taken on hugely ambitious state, local, and national issue campaigns—from health care and clean energy to gun violence and net neutrality—and we’ve won. The key, throughout, has been empowering our grassroots members through innovative uses of technology and organizing.

The need for innovative, technology-infused, people-powered organizing has never been clearer. 2016 is already shaping up to be a year of particularly fierce challenges and equally enormous opportunities—a year in which MoveOn can play a pivotal role.

One of the most powerful tools at our disposal is our petitions platform. This distributed, online campaigning platform gives members the tools needed to start campaigns on the things that matter the most to them at a state, local, and national level. Not only does this enable MoveOn members to campaign on more issues at every level of government, but it also creates a powerful, nuanced listening tool that lets us identify and elevate powerful, unexpected campaigns that deeply engage members.

The Platform Campaign Manager is a key role on the Platform team. Working closely with the rest of the team, you’ll help identify, optimize, and elevate strong member-led campaigns that will turn into large national political moments. As the primary person responsible for monitoring, adjusting, and refining our scaled platform systems, you’ll also ensure that our tools are extending the reach of MoveOn member grassroots organizing and winning campaigns across the country.

We are looking for a rapid-response campaigner who is detail oriented, creative, collaborative, and member-focused to join our terrific team. If you’re passionate about helping thousands of people run powerful, strategic, winning campaigns, this job is for you!

Responsibilities: Work with our state-of-the-art tools to find the most impactful, creative, member-led petitions and help transform them into winning campaigns.

Engage in rapid-response campaigning to identify and elevate timely grassroots campaigns within the news cycle.

Maintain a strong petition platform that surfaces a broad range of member campaigns and responds to campaigning opportunities.

Elevate the strongest or most newsworthy campaigns via email, social media, and other creative tactics.

Develop tactics, tools, and processes to quickly identify and elevate campaigns and bring in new, aligned members who will build the progressive movement.

Step in to support other powerful campaigning across the organization during crucial campaign moments.

Required skills and experience:

Deep understanding of organizing principles and how to execute strategic, winning campaigns

Commitment to listening to and empowering grassroots activists

Attention to detail and an affinity for creating scalable solutions

Willingness to fail fast, learn from failure, and adapt

Curiosity and an eagerness to learn about all issues big and small—from national tax legislation to local anti-discrimination laws

Comfort in learning the suite of MoveOn technology tools—including, but not limited to, our petitions platform, email system, and database—and to keep learning as new tools come into existence or as you devise new tactics.

Social media savvy; experience amplifying campaigns on mobile or social media

Work Environment

MoveOn is an agile organization, ever changing to meet the needs of our members and to help drive the progressive movement forward. As such, we manage a team of leaders who:

Like teamwork, but can work independently day to day,

Can plan and manage complex projects under relentless deadlines,

Are low-ego and high-output (like the rest of our team),

Can change directions quickly and frequently (“build it, test it, iterate quickly”),

Like working hard with a hard-working team, and

Thrive in a virtual office, communicating well on video and conference calls, Slack, and email.
