Colorado Gun Owners for Safety Consultant
Summary:
Giffords understands the need to amplify the
voices of gun owners and to include them as leaders in gun violence prevention
efforts across the country. In order to accomplish this, we are expanding our
current gun owner coalitions to encompass the entire nation and amplifying our
emphasis on building Gun Owners for Safety (GOS), in Colorado. This contractor will work in Colorado using best practices to
recruit, educate and activate gun owners in the fight against gun violence.
Location: Colorado (preferably
Denver metro area)
Goals:
- Engage gun owners in the fight
to prevent gun violence
- Identify, recruit, educate and
activate gun owners to promote policy change
- Increase
Giffords’ impact and footprint throughout Colorado
Duties +
Responsibilities:
The Colorado Consultant will:
- Build a base of gun owners and
identify media surrogates in CO.
- Recruit volunteer state leads
in CO.
- Coordinate state activities
including but not limited to: building out state partnerships and
relationships, attending and participating in state coalition meetings,
planning recruitment events/initiatives, coordinating meetings and goal
setting with the CO GOS steering committee, attending and participating in
potential partner meetings/events/initiatives, coordinating a cross
coalition gun owners for safety convening (w/ Consultants in TX and MN),
planning and executing a state-wide Giffords education tour, coordinating
educational issue polling, coordinating trainings and etc.
- Organize and execute state-wide
events which could include: roundtables, press conferences, community
meetings, rallies, etc.
- Act as a liaison between the
Giffords Engagement team, CO GOS steering committee, CO gun owners and
local/state organizations.
- Work with
the Giffords’ Engagement team to utilize gun owners nationwide to
participate in the national launch of GOS in the summer of 2020.
Essential Skills +
Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience in
organizing, campaigns, coalition-building or related fields; prior
campaign experience with gun violence prevention and gun owners
preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal
communication skills; demonstrated ability to recruit and retain volunteers
and members.
- Demonstrated problem solving
skills and the ability to build and execute a campaign plan from the early
stages.
- Excellent time management
skills and the ability to multitask.
- Strong interpersonal skills,
sense of humor and the ability to work well on a team with remote
supervision.
- Commitment
to Giffords’ mission and goals.
Duration:
March 1, 2020 - August 31, 2020.
Amount:
Giffords will grant the Consultant $5,000 per
month to complete the above deliverables.
