PRESS ASSISTANT


The Roy Cooper for North Carolina campaign is accepting applications for a Press Assistant based in Raleigh, North Carolina. This position will be an integral part of our efforts to re-elect Governor Roy Cooper.


North Carolina is the only presidential battleground state with both a competitive Senate and Governor’s race in 2020. Given this, the communications shop will often require a rapid-response approach to communications in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Candidates must have the ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and balance multiple projects at once.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft & edit communications copy (including but not limited to press releases, e-mails, media advisories, and opinion pieces)

  • Maintain and grow press lists

  • Monitor, collect, and organize daily press clips

  • Organize logistics on behalf of press conferences & events

  • Pitch upcoming press events to relevant media

  • Conduct issue-specific research

  • Assist in managing and responding to press inquiries

  • Perform other duties as needed to support campaign team


Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years communications experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to electing Democratic candidates up and down the ballot
