Basecamp Strategy (Washington, D.C.) is seeking a strong writer with a passion for politics to join our team through the end of November as a Content Fellow!

It’s clearly time for new leadership in Washington. If you want to break into politics and make an impact on the 2020 election, even in such a short time, then this is the opportunity for you. Applicants who are available through November 2020 and beyond are strongly encouraged to apply. Please indicate in your application when you would be available to start, and how long you are available.

With campaigns primarily operating online, digital fundraising is more important than ever, and there’s never been a better time to jump into our world and learn from the experts: YOU can help the candidates we need in Washington get there by helping us to write content that will raise BIG $$$ for Democrats.

Our approach has garnered us notice, and our team is growing and evolving quickly. No one is doing the same job they were doing six months ago or even three months or a month ago. You’ll be asked to learn quickly, and the moment you’ve nailed it, we hope you’ll be ready to learn something new.

Content Fellowship: Content Fellows will work alongside our Director of Content and Editorial team to write compelling emails that smash fundraising goals for our clients through the end of November (this year, we’re calling it “Election Month”).

Applicants need to be strong writers who can take direction, learn fast, and meet deadlines. You’ll need a meticulous work ethic, an excitement for incorporating breaking news into content, and enthusiasm for taking direction. With Election Day around the corner, Fellows should expect an intensive, fast-paced environment — and an incredibly rewarding experience.

The core elements of digital fundraising are very specific, and you’ll need to quickly learn a style of writing that you’ve never written in before. To succeed, your words need to pack a strong emotional punch, without relying on WRITING IN ALL CAPS or aggressive punctuation to make your point. The most emotional content often has no exclamation points at all. And you’ll need to quickly be able to create content at a quick clip -- Think newsroom 20 minutes before a deadline, not novel writing.

This Fellowship is a great opportunity to improve your writing skills and gain direct digital fundraising experience while supporting candidates you believe in at every level of our government and diverse non-profit organizations making a difference in our country.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated strength in writing

  • Ability to prioritize several tasks without letting anything fall through the cracks

  • A passion for writing

  • Dedication to electing kick-ass Democrats (incumbents and challengers) to office

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Keen attention to detail

About Basecamp Strategy:

At Basecamp Strategy, our vision for a better world drives everything we do: we believe that people with good ideas CAN change the world when empowered with the right tools and expertise.

We win tough races and elect incredible people by raising our clients as much money as possible online. But we’re a different kind of digital fundraising firm: We motivate with honesty and authenticity. We’re digital storytellers. And not only do candidates, donors, and voters prefer our style but we’ve also seen time and again that this kind of content drives the strongest fundraising results.

The best strategies for engaging donors have yet to be invented -- and we’re here to innovate and do just that. And we can only do exceptional work if we have the best team in the business. We’re a team of specialists that’s here to challenge assumptions and figure out what performs the best today, not what worked in 2012, 2014, 2016, or November 2018.

We know that when more voices are at the table, bigger, better, and bolder things happen. In both hiring employees and recruiting clients, we approach every decision with a commitment to diversity. Basecamp Strategy recruits, employs, trains, compensates and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, and other protected status as required by applicable law.

If you love a fast-paced environment, doing tremendously good work efficiently, thinking outside the box, and figuring out how to go from great to incredibly great, then you’ll love it here.

Application process:
If you’re ready to dive right in and start helping us put compelling content into the world, please send an email with a one-page resume, a portfolio or up to three writing samples, and a 100 words or less statement on what previous experience has prepared you for this role to jo...@basecampstrategy.com

Please use the subject line “[Firstname Lastname] - Basecamp Strategy Content Fellow.” Please indicate in your application where you heard about this position, when you would be available to start, and how long you are available.

Details:

Fellows will receive a $1,500/month stipend. The Fellowship will be run remotely.

We’re looking for candidates who can start right away.
