Labor Organizer - Bilingual English/ Spanish


Los Angeles, CA

 

The Los Angeles “Fight for 15” campaign is seeking candidates committed to the fight for economic and social justice. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Project Labor Organizer for an innovative and ground-breaking campaign that is bringing together fast food and low wage workers to hold corporations and employers accountable, to improve working conditions organizing for $15 an hour and a union.

 

POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Conduct outreach to low wage workers through work site, offsite and house visits.
• Identify worker issues and mobilize workers to join the Fight for $15 campaign
• Identify, recruit and develop worksite leaders
• Mobilize workers to participate in and lead worksite actions and public mobilizations and events
• Assist with planning and executing campaign strategy, events and actions
• Evaluate potential organizing targets
• Additional responsibilities and duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:


• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and worker rights
• Previous experience working on progressive campaigns with campus, community, political, labor OR issue-based organizations is desirable
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work effectively within a team
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
• Ability to work calmly and effectively under demanding deadlines
• Flexible and able to adjust to rapidly changing campaign priorities
• Good judgment
• Share our commitment to building a diverse union
• Proficiency in English and Spanish
• Valid U.S. driver’s license, automobile (to be used for work purposes) and auto insurance
• Ability to work long and irregular hours, including early morning, evening and weekend hours.
• Ability to relocate to Los Angeles. Moving related expenses are not reimbursed.


SALARY & BENEFITS:


• Competitive salary commensurate with experience, starting at $40,000/per annum. Individual health care and dental coverage is provided, as well as car allowance and paid time off.
