Digital Media Specialist

Overview of the Coalition

The National Public Pension Coalition (NPPC) is comprised of the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, AFT, IAFF, NEA, NCPERS and SEIU.  NPPC organizes and supports state-based coalitions and conducts national media strategies in defense of public employee defined benefit pension systems.  NPPC is a 501(c)(4) grassroots and political organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead NPPC’s digital communications effort at the state level

  • Assist states with management of webpages, Facebook, Twitter, email and other online mediums

  • Design graphics, shareable content, one-pagers, and other campaign and educational materials

  • Ability to edit video content

  • Find creative ways to communicate information about pensions and retirement security to the public

  • Develop, plan and direct online communications strategies and calendars for state coalitions 

  • Develop materials, including fact sheets, press releases, opinion pieces, tool kits, etc.

  • Advise local campaigns on effective digital communications strategy and member mobilization efforts

  • Other duties as assigned.

Direction and Decision Making:

This position reports to NPPC’s Executive Director. 


Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • 1-2 years experience working on a campaign, a legislative office or in some communications capacity

  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated skill with Facebook, Twitter, and Action Network

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Google

  • Excellent proofreading ability

  • Demonstrated strong writing skills related to correspondence

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet competing deadlines

  • Ability to work well within a team

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply organizational policies and procedures

  • Experience with utilizing and navigating the internet for information finding

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting in Washington DC, but may require travel. On occasion, long and irregular hours may be required.
