Title: Ohio Regional Campus Organizer

Position: Entry level; full-time

Location: Columbus, OH

 

Organization Overview

 

Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate. The Community Outreach Group is a part of Planned Parenthood, but a separate organization that supports Planned Parenthood with short-term staffing and large-scale advocacy campaigns.

 

General Description

 

Community Outreach Group is seeking a Regional Campus Organizer for Ohio. The role of the Regional Campus Organizer is to cultivate community within youth spaces across the state. . The organizer will engage youth volunteers and supporters through Planned Parenthood’s programs, build and strengthen local youth leadership, and support the short-term and long-term goals of the organization.

 

Responsibilities

 

This is an entry-level role. In this position, you will be required to do the following:

 

·       Participate in and lead campaign tactics such as phone banks, door-to-door canvasses, and community and campus events such as house parties, dorm storms, town hall meetings, street canvass teams, or on campus events.

·       Recruit, train, and coordinate young leaders who will participate in and lead campaign activities.

·       Develop volunteer, youth-led outreach teams.

·       Develop short-term and long-term goals, and learn to build a campaign plan to accomplish them.

·       Conduct community and campus outreach to generate public awareness and support for reproductive freedom.

·       Develop relationships with key political players, opinion leaders, allied organizations and coalitions to build the base of support within the region.

·       Conduct training for young leaders on topics pertaining to but not limited to the following: one-on-ones, strategy development, the public narrative, team and leadership development.

 

Qualifications

 

Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:

·       A background in student organizing (of diverse communities) and working knowledge of key reproductive health, rights, and justice issues and campus organizing strategies. 

·       Responds to problems or challenges that affect the ability of the team to meet assigned goals and objectives. Must be able to operate autonomously and in consultation with affiliates and youth leaders.

·       Effective communicator face-to-face and in writing

·       Curious and excited around movement building, grassroots organizing, and volunteer management

·       Excited to learn the use of data to set goals and measure progress

·       Flexible and self-motivated to identify priorities and complete work without being micro-managed

·       Ability to work independently, under pressure, prioritizes and handles multiple tasks simultaneously.

·       Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.

·       Comfortable with technology, and can learn new tools quickly

·       Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

·       Licensed driver with access to a vehicle

·       Has strong ties in the state of Ohio

·       Brings strong knowledge of youth and campus organizing

·       Knows how to work in partnership with diverse communities

·       Knows how to use the VAN voter database software

·       Knows how to use Excel

·       Knows how to use Google email, documents, etc.

 

Compensation

 

This is a full-time, exempt, entry-level position with the Community Outreach Group, with an annual base salary between $30,000 - $42,000 depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.  Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement up to $75/month, and employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.  This is a short-term position with an expected end date of March 2016.
