Trans* Community Organizer (Field Organizer)

 

SAVE (Safeguarding American Values for Everyone) is an umbrella organization consisting of SAVE Foundation (C3), SAVE Inc (C4) and SAVE Action PAC. SAVE is South Florida’s leading organization dedicated to protecting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender against discrimination. Since 1993, SAVE has advocated for equal rights for persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We accomplish this through grassroots action. In 2014, SAVE updated Miami-Dade’s Human Rights Ordinance to include gender identity and gender expression. And in 2015, SAVE launched its prejudice reduction program to reduce transphobia through face-to-face conversations.

 

Job Description

The Trans* Community Organizer will be responsible for continuing to build trans* leadership and visibility in the movement. The Trans* Community Organizer will be responsible for recruiting and building a team of trans* and gender non-conforming volunteer leaders. Their overall efforts will increase the capacity of the Prejudice Reduction canvassing and phone banking work. Other duties assigned as needed.

 

Scope of Work

 

Responsibilities:

• Recruit volunteers in classroom announcements, at community and campus meetings, at phone banks and one-on-one.
• Develop volunteer leadership, including recruiting, motivating, cultivating and developing a team through side-by-side coaching and volunteer trainings.
• Maintain volunteer and voter databases.
• Coordinate projects as needed, including canvasses, phone banks and recruit actions.
• Engage in SAVE’s prejudice reduction door-to-door canvasses.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

·        Solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are critical for this position

·        Must be passionate about SAVE’s mission

·        Deep knowledge of and strong commitment to the trans* community

·        Team-player who is willing to work across teams and pitch-in to ensure all colleagues succeed

·        Must be flexible, self-directed, organized and goal-oriented. Should be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and handle pressure well

·        Bilingual highly preferred (Spanish or Haitian Creole)

Hours: Varies, may include nights and weekends

 

Location: Miami, FL

 

Compensation: $35,000 / year. Cell phone and health insurance stipend available. This position is currently funded for 12 months, with the opportunity for continuation if funding is continued. 30 day probation period.
