POSITION: Message Mobilization Director

DEPARTMENT: Mobilization

LOCATION: Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY:

The mission of the new Mobilization Department at the Democratic National Committee is to bring ordinary people into the heart of the DNC and provide Americans with encouragement, power, and tools to mobilize in their communities. We organize in all 3,413 counties across the country, through the state parties and from the grassroots, and we seek to impact down-ballot races and build the Democratic resistance to the corrupt, dangerous Trump-Republican agenda.

We are a team of passionate, cross-discipline experts committed to spreading the truth, getting people more deeply involved, and mobilizing grassroots donors to support the party through creative, relentlessly optimized experiences online and offline. Come join us.

The Democratic National Committee seeks a digital communications specialist to lead the Democratic response to Donald Trump. You’ll spend every day responding to the news cycle and take a leading role in Democratic resistance.

Your job will be to work with our communication and research team to ensure that Donald Trump is not re-elected in 2020 and lead the Democratic resistance to the Republican agenda. You’ll mobilize supporters and voters – not simply push out a message. The person in this job directs our efforts to counter the Trump agenda, and ensures that everyday Americans – including people who did not vote for Democrats in 2016 -- spread the word about the dangers of Donald Trump.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the Democratic Party’s message on digital channels
  • Mobilize millions of Americans on DNC platforms to spread the truth about the Donald Trump and Republican agenda
  • Direct the digital rapid response effort to breaking news
  • Craft and maintain digital communications plan and calendar
  • Provide expert digital advice to communication and research teams
  • Write excellent rapid response content for every available channel
  • Work with our paid media director to persuade grassroots supporters to share information on Republicans and vote in 2017 and 2018
  • Help direct communications digital products, such as original microsites and video projects
  • Work with state parties and campaigns to create effective messaging strategies on digital platforms
  • Manage a team of creative producers, including video and design staff
  • Collaborate with the DSCC, DCCC and other allies to ensure we achieve the communication goals of the broader Democratic community online
  • Assist with training on digital rapid response as needed

ABOUT YOU:

  • Extensive experience creating compelling copy in a rapid response environment. You can write quickly and in a compelling manner about almost any topic
  • Commitment to integrity, fast-paced environments, sound judgement, and collaboration
  • Experience working with communication and research staff
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; you should have an eagle-eye for typos and errors
  • Ability to inspire people to action using the written word
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience writing professional copy
  • Ability to adapt to and create multiple writing tones and styles
  • Extensive experience writing for digital and social media platforms and a sense of excitement for new innovations in digital communication, mobilization, and organizing
  • Comfortable working under deadline pressure
  • A willingness to work long hours as needed
  • You must be in DC or be willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C. area
