Regional Field Organizer
Freedom for All Massachusetts (FFAM), the campaign to preserve transgender nondiscrimination protections at the ballot in the 2018 election, has an immediate opening for a full time Regional Field Organizer to help lead grassroots efforts to increase public support for inclusive nondiscrimination policies that protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals throughout Massachusetts and to defeat the discriminatory 2018 ballot initiative that would eliminate public accommodations nondiscrimination protections for transgender Bay Staters.
Background
In 2016, a bipartisan coalition of Massachusetts lawmakers passed legislation updating the Commonwealth’s nondiscrimination laws to include protections for transgender people in public spaces, such as restaurants, retail stores and hospitals. An Act Relative to Transgender Anti-Discrimination added “gender identity” to existing Massachusetts civil rights law for public accommodations, which currently prohibits discrimination based on age, race, national origin, sexual orientation, sex, religion and marital status.
Following the passage of the bill, anti-transgender activists secured the low threshold of signatures needed – fewer than one percent of the state population – to try to take these protections away on the statewide November 2018 ballot.
Freedom for All Massachusetts will lead a broad based coalition of stakeholders committed to protecting fairness for our transgender neighbors and ensuring that Massachusetts remains a leader on civil rights.
