Paid Training Internship at KG Consulting

 Build a Career and Help the World

Are you a graduate student, recent graduate, or college senior looking to build skills and experience in the nonprofit sector?  KG Consulting (KGC) is one of the nation’s leading fundraising consulting firms providing services to progressive institutions.  We are offering two paid internship positions this Fall, for approximately 10-20 hours/week for 10 weeks.

Interns will earn $15/hour, and the actual hours and weeks worked are somewhat flexible based on the interns’ and KGC’s needs.

Development is central to any nonprofit, and a key skill for anybody hoping to work for or run a nonprofit.  This internship provides the opportunity to: learn all facets of fundraising; do real-world, meaningful work; interact with high impact nonprofit professionals and organizations, and; be ready to launch into a nonprofit development career.

In addition to learning important skills, we want participants to build a network by meeting other fundraising professionals in different areas of the field.  There will also be opportunities to explore other paid internships with KGC clients after the initial KGC internship is completed.

Primary Purpose

The internship will acquaint interns with the core principles of nonprofit fundraising and prepare them for a potential career in those fields. Interns will be an integrated part of the team, attending client meetings and events and regularly interacting with all staff, including the Founder.

What You’ll Do in a Typical Week

  • Learn the fundamentals of development in formal training sessions.  Many of these sessions will be led by key partners who are seasoned professionals from other fundraising firms 
  • Attend client meetings and calls and KG Consulting internal meetings and calls
  • Meet with senior KGC staff for fundraising training and support on client engagement Research high net worth individuals, companies and foundations and update prospective donor profiles for clients and in firm database
  • Assist in drafting meeting agendas, notes, budgets, and briefing documents
  • Learn and practice skills essential to most careers, including project management, time management, effective communications, managing up, scheduling and more

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired

  • An interest in working in the progressive nonprofit or political sectors
  • Proactive attitude and a thirst for learning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently but collaboratively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer-service skills, detail-oriented and dependable

Located in: Virtual, but preference will be given to candidates in the metro Washington DC region.

 Applicant Availability: 10-20 hours/week roughly from October through December.  Actual schedule and daily hours contingent upon applicant’s schedule.

Compensation: $15/hour.
