The
American Library Association (ALA) is seeking a full-time advocacy
communication professional to join our Public Policy and Advocacy Office
located in Washington, DC.

economy, as well as strengthening the public interest in information
policy issues such as telecommunications, copyright, access to

RESPONSIBILITIES
The
Assistant Director of Advocacy Communications will lead ALA’s digital
advocacy campaigns and outreach efforts to ensure that ALA is positioned
as the most credible, trusted source of library policy information with
the Capitol Hill audience, state and local officials, as well as the
public.
This position works closely with the Public Policy team
to design advocacy campaigns and deliver information in a timely and
easily understandable language. They will oversee the production of
advocacy and policy program materials, ensuring they meet ALA’s advocacy
goals. Review and edit emails, talking points, presentations, articles,
and other material to ensure that all outgoing communications reflect
ALA’s advocacy strategies. Will co-lead our National Library Legislative
event. They are also responsible for identifying storytellers in states
and sharing that information with the public policy team.
Candidates
should have highly developed communication skills including
influencing, digital and social media campaigns, and use of grassroots
communication tools. They should have an understanding of the
legislative process and an interest in working for a membership
organization with strong grassroots network. They need strong technology
skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills.
COMPENSATION:
Negotiable from the mid-60’s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an
excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid
vacation and retirement annuity.
