Outreach Specialist--Union of Concerned Scientists

The Union of Concerned Scientists’ Science Network is an inclusive community of scientists and technical experts who want to use their expertise to tackle the world’s most pressing problems. Through a combination of effective actions, resources to strengthen advocacy and public engagement skills, and events that offer peer-based support, we are building a cohort of local leaders and teams—and empowering them to tackle pressing science-based issues in their own communities. This person will recruit and cultivate relationships with local team leaders; develop tools, trainings, and UCS action opportunities that empower leaders to effectively organize on the ground in their communities; and help integrate local teams’ into UCS’s programmatic efforts. This person will also work to uphold the Science Network’s mission of being a diverse and inclusive community. The ideal candidate will be familiar with grassroots organizing, leadership development, and scientist advocacy and be comfortable with travel.
