Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) — a nonprofit, nonpartisan leadership development organization dedicated to developing its members’ potential to ensure every child has the opportunity to receive an outstanding education
— is looking to hire a copy editor for our Communications team. Qualified candidates for this position will have a proven experience writing for a variety of audiences on digital platforms, and the ability to write, copy edit and proofread in a rapid-response environment. Additionally, they will demonstrate cultural competency, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout internal and external communications.

Responsibilities

  • Copy edit emails and other external-facing communications to correct grammar/punctuation/spelling errors; improve clarity; maintain high-quality standards; confirm accuracy; follow best practices; and ensure content and voice meet LEE brand standards and values — especially as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Respond quickly to inquiries from teams

  • Communicate trends and issues in the review process with staff

  • Provide recommendations for improvements in the review process

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in public relations, marketing, communications, media, journalism or similar field

  • Proven experience writing and copy editing for a variety of audiences on multiple platforms in a rapid-response environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Thorough understanding of email marketing best practices

  • Knowledge of AP style

  • Ability to set and consistently meet deadlines and commitments

  • Cultural competency with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout internal and external communications

  • Positive attitude with team-minded mentality

  • Thrive in fast-paced entrepreneurial environment

  • Comfortable working remotely and collaborating in a geographically dispersed organization

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in journalism or related field with a passion for storytelling and working with diverse and underprivileged communities

  • Proficient in the tactical use of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube

  • Experience with email marketing platforms, event platforms, and databases (e.g., Pardot, Salesforce, Eventbrite)

  • Graphic design and visual branding experience


This is a part-time, temporary position (15–20 hours per week until the end of 2017). Hourly pay is competitive and depends on prior experience.
