Job Summary

The Trainer is responsible for managing the implementation of a training program for new organizing staff in the field department. The Trainer will work with leadership to implement state-specific training plans and programming to achieve organizational goals. In addition to developing the program, the Trainer will ultimately be responsible for developing systems to assess and report out on the success of each training program at every level and in every region.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

●      Conduct daily trainings for new canvassers covering all aspects of new hire orientation, canvass skills training, minivan, and health and safety.

●      Design and execute a multi-pronged leadership development program focused on emerging grassroots activists, FOF programs, and partner programs in creating tiered modes of engagement for local leaders.

●      Build and maintain clearinghouse of training materials for staff and partners, covering subjects ranging from: building and maintaining political relationships and coalitions, to delivering an effective persuasion message at the doors.

●      When needed and requested by states, directly organize and facilitate trainings.

●      Applying training best practices to ensure trainings are professionally and experientially designed.


Qualifications & Experience

■ High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

■ At least 2-3 cycles of paid field campaign or other door to door canvassing experience.

■ Commitment to building power in the progressive movement a must.

■ Knowledge of Votebuilder/VAN/LAN preferred.

■ Basic computer literacy, Zoom admin experience, database skills, and prefer access to a reliable portable computer. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a plus.

■ Must have reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

■ Ability to work long and irregular hours in a fast paced, metrics driven work environment.

■ Ability to work independently and in team settings.

■ Strong coaching skills and abilities.

■ Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects.

■ Strong interpersonal communications skills.

■ Possess a winning mentality.

■ Bilingual experience is a plus, but not required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

●       Because of COVID-19, state and local government stay at home orders, phased reopening orders, and other factors limit For Our Future’s canvassing program. When these limits apply, your work environment will be your domicile (teleworking) or a socially-distanced office. Door-to-door canvassing is considered an essential function of this job. When it is possible to safely and appropriately resume door-to-door canvassing, it will be a high priority for this role to stage, launch, and manage canvass programs. Employees may be required to work in extreme weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold. This position is expected to interact regularly with community partners face-to-face or in a group setting, and may also be expected to interact face-to-face with volunteers or voters. Employees will be provided with health and safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE).

 

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

■       Normal hours of business are from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday thru Friday, however employees will be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and nights.

■       Employees may be required to abide by certain blackout dates during a campaign cycle, and generally not allowed to take more than 2-3 days off consecutively during blackout periods. Emergencies are not affected by this policy.
