Position Summary:

The Director of Elected Leadership Development (ELD) will serve on the Elected Leadership (EL) team. The Elected Leadership team is responsible for inspiring, developing and supporting our members to effectively pursue elected office as a path to help kids and their community.  This position reports to the Senior Director, Elected Leadership Development.

The Director will be responsible for helping to develop and working to execute the strategic plan of the ELD team and will work closely with the Senior DIrector of ELD.  This person will focus their efforts on ensuring ELD goals, priorities and the team’s knowledge, skills, and mindsets are strategically developed, executed and implemented. The Director will also support team management and performance across the entire EL team. Qualified candidates will have a clear commitment to our mission and theory of change, as well as a community-driven approach and organizing philosophy.  This person must also be able to incorporate the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion concepts of power, privilege, oppression, and liberation into our work with members.


Position Location: Flexible (Denver preferred) 


Travel Requirements: 30-40%

Responsibilities:

  • 35% – Programming
    • Developing and leading all elected member convenings
    • Identifying and implementing digital tools to allow members to convene, collaborate and communicate virtually
    • Working with external partners to augment programming
  • 25% – Coaching Elected Members
    • Implement the ELD coaching strategy
    • Coach LEE elected members on the resources they will needs to achieve results and ensure our elected leaders are creating impact for kids
    • Help elected members articulate their vision, identify goals and actions, and help leverage LEE’s resources in pursuit of meaningful impact
  • 15% – Measurement/Reporting
    • Vetting and analyzing options for tracking of member success
    • Implementing and maintaining reporting integrity in new system and monitoring LEENK elected member data
    • Track and measure wins/impact
  • 15% – Implementing Strategic Vision & Direction
    • Help oversee ELD program along with Senior Director & VP
    • Identify and source for important roles that impact team needs
    • Directly supervise ELD staff as needed
  • 10% – Communications
    • Working with Senior Director to develop and implement Elected member communications strategy to include: online, social media, email, forum, digital meet-ups and support Elected member constituent communication
    • Develop and maintain internal LEE communications on elected member wins/impact and stories

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Six years of professional work experience
  • Three or more years of experience working for, with or as an elected official; in-depth knowledge of what makes an effective elected leader
  • Record of results when analyzing programming to identify and address challenges and opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Highly effective communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable in and desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience developing and cultivating relationships and networks in order to achieve results
  • Effectively works across lines of difference with colleagues and constituents
  • Extensive individual and organizational fundraising skills
  • Extremely strong attention to detail, strong personal organizing skills, and ability to independently take initiative
  • Ability to travel 30-40% and work occasional weekends and evenings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any of the following advanced degrees: MPA, MPP, MBA, JD
  • At least three years of experience running advocacy, issue, or candidate campaigns
  • At least five years of management experience in a non-profit and geographically dispersed work environment
  • Experience working with communities of color or in under-resourced communities
  • Experience managing a legislative caucus during session and in electoral cycle
  • Experience serving as Chief of Staff for an elected official
  • Experience advocating for policy change via legislation and political campaign
  • Experience managing social media in a professional capacity
