End Citizens United’s Mission is toend Big Money in politics and fix our rigged political system by electing campaign finance reform champions, passing state ballot measures, and elevating this issue in the national conversation. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens Unitedand end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics. We work towards this mission by: electing pro-reform candidates, raising the issue of money in politics as a national priority, working with ballot measure campaigns to pass pro-reform laws in the states, and using grassroots membership to demonstrate political power on the issue of money in politics.
Reports To: Research Director
Job Summary: The Research Associate will work with our Research Team to assist in original research efforts for the organization. These efforts will include but not be limited to: creating campaign finance centric research on endorsed and targeted candidates, daily candidate monitoring, and creatively conducting campaign finance related research as needed. This position will work independently on projects with editing and oversight from the rest of the Research Team.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Research on candidates running for office in 2020:
§ Build out and continually update research on candidates in targeted races, including policy positions, accomplishments, and overall record related to money in politics
· Daily monitoring of priority races:
§ Write daily bullets on target candidates and issues
§ Targeted media monitoring of candidates
§ Maintain trackers on campaign finance issues, including candidate campaign finance commitments
· Research on campaign finance reform:
§ Conduct research projects to highlight the negative effects of unlimited and undisclosed spending
§ Conduct research on super PACs, dark money groups, and big money groups
Qualifications:
Applicants should have 1+ years of experience in political research, including familiarity with research bullet writing. Applicants must have a strong interest in stopping big money in politics and helping elect campaign finance reform champions to Congress. Applicants should have strong writing skills, think creatively, be flexible on switching gears on projects quickly, and have an interest in working in a very collaborative team.
