Position: Community Organizer
Classification: Part-time, Exempt, Temporary
Location: Southern LA County
Position Summary:
Method Campaign Services is looking for a Community Organizer responsible for a range of program objectives to build and strengthen our organizing infrastructure and engage local activists to be a powerful force in their communities around local issues in Southern LA County.
Areas of Responsibility
- Provide for the recruitment, training, leadership development and coordination of political activists for issue campaigns and legislative meetings and other activities;
- Develop progress reports and analysis on activist/organizational capacity using various reporting functions;
- Work in close collaboration with Method staff and activists to develop goals and execute plans;
- Work with activists to integrate political capacity building into the day-to-day work of grassroots organizations;
- Prepare and/or support the creation of activist’s education materials that support capacity building;
- Plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment requiring rapid adjustment to changing priorities and strategies;
- Use digital tools to advance on the ground organizing;
- Turnout activists to special events or internal planning meetings;
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Superior oral and written communication skills;
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in planning and implementing strategic, legislative, electoral, or community support campaigns with a labor union, state or local agency or association, non-profit community organization or political campaign;
- Ability to develop and implement an organizing plan measuring engagement;
- Proven presentation and training skills;
- Ability to analyze complex interpersonal and inter-organizational relationships;
- Ability to travel and willing to work long hours and weekends, only if needed;
- Maintain an operational vehicle and driver’s license;
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, build strong working relationships and hold others accountable;
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to creating a positive work environment that encourages personal responsibility, initiative and innovation;
- Self-motivated, great attitude and strong team player;
- Strong sense of professionalism and integrity;
- Proven ability to work with diverse group of people, from local activists to professional organizers to elected officials to other community and issue stakeholders;
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and G Suite programs;
- Basic knowledge of Online Campaign Tools and other political databases is helpful;
