Senior Campus Organizer to End Tuition Increases

50+1 Strategies is hiring a senior organizer to help unite California State University (CSU) students against yet another round of proposed tuition increases. Based in Southern California, the 2-month project will require the organizer to immerse themself in all parts of campus life in order to maximize contact with students at Cal State Long Beach and CSU Dominguez Hills. The organizer will collaborate closely with labor allies, community leaders, student organizations and other stakeholders that are committed to securing adequate funding and a quality education for an increasingly diverse CSU student body. The organizer will be tasked with mobilizing a sizable group of students to participate in a dynamic rally in March. Past experience in student government or campus organizing is preferred but not required.
Organizer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Developing a robust grassroots organizing plan to boost the visibility of our campaign, building lasting relationships with student leaders, and recruiting and hiring a team of junior organizers to lead outreach efforts across the campuses
Cultivating and maintaining meaningful relationships with student advocates, faculty leaders and other stakeholders that could help amplify our message and recruit participants for a large rally
Creating outreach materials, conducting presentations, and leading strategy sessions that educate students about the funding crisis in our higher education system and motivates them to take action
Managing a team of junior organizers, including leading grassroots outreach trainings on volunteer recruitment and event planning and facilitation
Overseeing a sizable organizing budget to help support outreach activities and hire talented junior organizers
Providing detailed and timely reporting on progress to goals and happenings/challenges in the field through routine check-ins with 50+1 Strategies staff
Campaign position qualifications:
At least 1-2 years of advocacy or organizing experience on social or economic policy issues that impact young people, low-income families, and communities of color
A deep respect for higher education and the advocates who have strived to affect positive change in CSU system
Enthusiasm about grassroots organizing and politics, and excited to engage the community about issues that make a difference
Experience working with volunteers and an ability to inspire courageous leadership in the face of uncertainty
Willing to work long and irregular hours at times, potentially including weekends
Goal-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks
Committed to collaboration and teamwork under all circumstances
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Passionate about people-centered, metrics-driven work
Compensation and Benefits:
$5,000-$6,000 per month
