Field Representative

Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) is seeking applicants for a Field Representative position based in Palm Desert, CA.  The Field Representative will work with the District Director to develop and implement a proactive outreach strategy to strengthen the Member's relationships and continually build presence in the community. The Field Representative will also maintain and utilize a database of community leaders and stakeholders and regularly attend a variety of meetings and events to stay abreast of local issues, maintain relationships, present greetings and commendations, and speak on behalf of the Member. Staffer will also identify and monitor issues of high importance/concern to district residents and Member and coordinate with district and DC staff to ensure that district field activities reflect the schedule and priorities of the Member.

Duties include organizing district events that engage the community and highlight legislative priorities by working collaboratively with community organizations, stakeholders, and the Member's district, policy, and communications staff. Qualified candidates must demonstrate strategic and results-driven public affairs and project management experience.  Additionally, candidates must have prior experience in coalition building, an understanding of the federal legislative process, and in-depth knowledge of the 36^th Congressional District and Southern CA.   

The position requires the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure, ensure attention to detail, think creatively, and meet deadlines.  In addition, qualified candidates must be self-starters with the ability to work individually and as part of a team with excellent public speaking and writing skills.  Applicants must also have the flexibility to work long hours, including nights and weekends.  Ties to California’s 36^th Congressional District and bilingual candidates are preferred. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and an automobile for business use.
