Organizational Specialist, Limited Term Project Staff, Five(5) Month Assignment in Raleigh, NC
This position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing assistance with a variety of professional services with a strong emphasis on supporting political campaigns and organizing in the Center for Strong Affiliates, Campaigns and Elections department.
Position Summary: The incumbent will work on a specific political project, increasing North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) member political engagement. The incumbent will partner as assigned with NCAE to implement the project. The work includes identifying and recruiting NCAE members to participate in electoral activities, support NCAE’s use of VAN around electoral programs, and establish and grow programs to increase member activism and motivation. To carry out these responsibilities, the incumbent submits regular reports and uses a personal computer, associated software, and other office automation technology and travels extensively within the area(s) of assignment by various conveyances, including driving a car.
Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Minimum Qualifications: Experience in one or more of the following areas: organizing, strategic planning, crisis management, electoral campaigns, public relations, and communications. Other Requirements: Writing samples (training, facilitation, strategic planning, reports, etc.) may be required at time of interview. Must be able to work weekends and late evenings. Must possess a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential): Basic field experience as a political organizer. Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and analytical skills. Demonstrated high motivation level and willingness to take risks by experimenting with new techniques to organize. Positive openness toward continual learning and self-development. Demonstrated proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrated ability to participate as a professional team member in collaborative activities, including demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members and with external partner organizations. Successful references. Tier 2 (Preferred): Training experience in the basics of political organizing. Demonstrated use of data analytic tools to support campaigns. Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in working with leaders, members, and community organizations in member mobilization, member engagement, membership growth (recruitment and retention), problem solving, conflict management, and creative and critical thinking. Demonstrated ability to support NEA and affiliate partnership and coalition efforts with other organizations.
