Legislative Caucus Director

The Kansas Democratic Party (KDP) is hiring a Legislative Caucus Director to work with Democratic House and Senate Candidates over the two-year 2020 campaign cycle. The Legislative Caucus Director will be responsible for helping to create and implement a campaign plan that includes fundraising, candidate recruitment, and support. This position reports to the Kansas Democratic Party Executive Director; however, the position will also work closely with the Party’s House and Senate Leadership and their legislative staff. 

This is a full-time position located in Topeka, Kansas.

Duties Included (but not limited to):

• Finance/Fundraising The Legislative Caucus Director is responsible for preparing and executing the campaign committees’ fundraising plan and budget, in consultation with the House and Senate Caucus Leadership, Chiefs of Staff and allied organizations. The Legislative Caucus Director will ensure all campaign finance reports and other required reports are filed accurately and on time, along with helping candidates and incumbents develop and implement their campaign fundraising plans.
• Voter FileAdministration The Legislative Caucus Director will be the key person in the state responsible for ensuring that all Democratic legislative candidates are using Votebuilder effectively and taking responsibility for support as necessary. The Caucus Director will provide service to legislative candidates and staff by acting as the frontline for troubleshooting VAN requests, creating user accounts, training, report creation, district targeting numbers, and ensuring the highest quality of data.
• Candidate Recruitment 
  • Assist in coordination of candidate recruitment with Legislative Caucus leadership and staff, allied organizations, and other parties. 
  • This may require travel, and this position will work with county parties and organizations to find solid candidates who will do the work necessary to win races.

Qualifications:
The Legislative Caucus Director should have a strong background in strategic planning including developing campaign benchmarks and clear objectives in the areas of field work, fundraising, and working with support teams. Superior project management skills are a must to make sure that campaign strategies and tactics adapt and change with the dynamics throughout the election cycle. The candidate needs superb judgment, political savvy, significant fundraising experience and success, and a work ethic of the highest degree. The preferred candidate will have a solid understanding of Kansas politics, elected officials, and major local political issues.
