Senior Associate/Campaigner--Media Affairs
Description:
The
senior associate will assist the department in its efforts to develop and
implement public relations campaigns and strategies using traditional and
digital media to forward our goals. This job requires moderate travel, as well
as occasional weekend and after-hours work as needed.
Responsibilities:

Develop and implement
communications strategies to support AFT issues, campaigns, leaders and
members, including earned media, paid media and digital media
- Work
closely with research, affiliates and other departments to analyze,
interpret and distill research and policy proposals for internal and
external use.
- Develop
strategic prep documents and provide communications support for AFT
leaders and members for media interviews and external events.
- Develop
message points, speeches, letters to the editor, op-eds, background
pieces, fact sheets, press kit materials, press releases, activism email
content, social media content and other communications materials.
- Serve as a media contact at the national level for AFT issues and campaigns and develop proactive media outreach strategies.
- Moderate travel is required
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications
- Experience in public relations, journalism, digital activism or campaign research
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to respond quickly to developments of importance to the AFT
- Experience writing speeches, columns, op-eds and articles is preferred
- Candidates must be organized and detail oriented
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Initiative, reliability and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure atmosphere
- Ability to work effectively with leaders and staff in complex and sometime political situations
- Background in labor, education and/or politics is desirable

Compensation
The starting salary for this position is $84,112 annually, with generous vacation, health and retirement benefits
