Position Summary:
The Diversity Director will work collaboratively to
define internal diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy, action plans, and
goals and organizational benchmarks; design D&I initiatives, integrate and
institutionalize D&I goals and benchmarks into HRC’s overall strategy;
develop D&I trainings to ensure policies are carried through practice; and
work with staff and leadership to ensure successful implementation. The
Director should be a strategic thinker, a change agent, a skilled presenter, an
adept troubleshooter, and a persuasive influencer.
The Director reports to the Vice President of Human
Resources & Leadership Development and works closely with Human Resources
Director and the Executive Team. The Director’s responsibilities will primarily
focus on internal D&I initiatives and managing the diversity program staff.
The Director will also partner with the staff and the board to build external
programs and goals concerning D&I.
Position
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Vice President, Human Resources
& Leadership Development, the Executive Team, the Human Resources Director and
other key stakeholders to further develop clearly defined internal D&I
strategies, action plans, goals and benchmarks.
- Oversee the design and implementation of D&I
initiatives.
- Monitor D&I goals and benchmarks, and offer
strategies to senior leadership to ensure accountability.
- Partner with HR department staff to update the staff
recruitment and retention plan with a goal of increasing participation from all
communities at all levels of the organization.
- Curate a curriculum for developing all staff on
the full range of diversity including LGBTQ identities and intersectional
issues. Train staff directly or identify
appropriate internal or external trainers.
- Partner with HRC staff working with board and
steering committees to extend training to volunteers and boards.
- Supervise the day-to-day work of diversity staff
and interns.
- Work with the board, relevant board committees
and designated staff to define D&I goals and provide organizational support
to implement these goals.
- Work with board and other staff to develop a
coordinating body to oversee D&I activities throughout the HRC board and
staff structure.
- Work with HRC staff to assess current and future
programs and their impact on D&I objectives, including developing and
achieving annual community engagement goals and strategies for volunteers.
- Prepare and present periodic and reports to
senior HRC leaders.
- Serve as an articulate and results-oriented
change agent.
- Inspire colleagues to achieve new levels of
D&I expertise, confidence, and productivity.
- Keep abreast of the HRC’s
climate by regularly talking with all stakeholders.
- Represent HRC
at various community, civic, and professional meetings and conferences as requested.
- Provide organizational
support to implement internal D&I goals.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications: - Commitment to LGBTQ equality is required.
- Minimum 7 years related experience.
- At least 5 years D&I experience, preferably at
nonprofit organizations with at least 200 employees.
- Experience must include successfully designing,
implementing, and assessing D&I initiatives, including trainings.
- Strong change management skills.
- Experience leading and implementing
organizational change.
- Demonstrated managerial
skills including staff, volunteers and interns.
- Experience working closely with executives is
preferred.
- Excellent active listening skills.
- High emotional intelligence.
- Ability to effectively work across a wide
variety of constituency groups and organize support for goals and plans.
- Ability to function with a high level of
independence and to work collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent judgment, political sensitivity and
the ability to act collaboratively and discreetly.
- Exceptional time-management skills, work ethic
and ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task.
- Ability to create and maintain relationships
with national and local LGBTQ groups and organizations from all communities.
- Demonstrated cultural competency across all
communities.
