Resist and Win - Election Data Director
MoveOn is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Director to manage voter and volunteer data to power a massive national campaign across hundreds of districts to win back control of congress and elect progressive candidates all across the country.
As MoveOn’s Election Data Director MoveOn members will be counting on you to make sure they're being offered the most impactful and relevant volunteer opportunities and that they're delivering the most effective message to each voter in this election.
Responsibilities:
- Primary person responsible for managing, organizing and deploying voter and volunteer data for MoveOn’s 2018 electoral member mobilization programs.
- Work with our Mobile and Organizing teams to create target lists for voter contact and volunteer recruitment.
- Work with national allies and partner organizations to coordinate targeting
- Work closely with our Analytics team to deploy persuasion and turnout models in hundreds of races across the country and support other 2018 election efforts.
Skills required:
Our 2018 Election Data Director should be a gifted data manager with a high attention to detail who can communicate effectively across the organization and apply good strategic and analytic judgement. The role requires the following:
- Experience with databases and lots of data. We use postgreSQL and Amazon Redshift as well as MySQL databases. Our data sets are typically hundreds of thousands of rows or larger and you'll be managing data across hundreds of races throughout the country. Experience with other setups is fine too. Experience with digital analytics or analytics in an advocacy or electoral campaign is also a plus, but not required.
- High attention to detail. You’ll be working with lots of complex data sets and will need to consistently and accurately manage data to ensure our voter contact and volunteer recruitment programs are targeting the right people.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. You'll be working with people from teams across the organization. They don't want a data dump. They want collaboration and strategic guidance.
- Good judgment and vision. The organization counts on its data staff team to provide sound decision-making advice. You should feel comfortable doing that, even with imperfect knowledge, and should have the vision to anticipate the analytics questions we’ll be asking six months from now. The election data director should be comfortable interpreting data in the political context of the elections we're involved in. You're there to help us make sure we're using data wisely, not just to make sure it's there.
- A basic understanding of modern data science. Our problems frequently change, so a broad knowledge base of analytic approaches and the ability to learn quickly are key. We do most of our analysis in R with scripts as needed, but any solid stats/analytics platform experience will work.
- A passion for social justice. You should do this job because you’re passionate about making the country more progressive through grassroots activism.
- You act with high integrity, professionalism, low ego, and are a team player. You’ll fit in well at MoveOn with those.
Location: Work from anywhere within the continental United States.
Reports to: Elections Mobilization Director
Classification, Salary, and Benefits: Full-time; highly competitive salary including benefits such as 100%-employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance for all staff and their children; employer-paid premiums for life insurance for all staff; 13.32 hours accrued vacation per month, 6.66 hours accrued sick leave per month; floating holidays and all-staff holidays, and reimbursement of home office expenses.
