ACLU FIELD ORGANIZER JOB DESCRIPTION


The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is conducting a targeted campaign to elevate the civil liberties issues at stake during the 2018 electoral cycle. This program will hire experienced field organizers in states across the country to develop relationships with partner organizations, plan events, and recruit and manage volunteers to raise awareness of the most pressing civil liberties issues of the day.


Organizers will report directly to the field director, and will be based in one of the following states: Florida, Michigan, Oregon, and West Virginia. This role will require evening and weekend hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Training, recruiting, and managing volunteers, and recruiting and identifying volunteer leaders

  • Building and tracking relationships with volunteers

  • Supporting relationship-building and coordinating with local partner organizations and community allies

  • Working directly with the field director to ensure goals are met

  • Maintaining the highest regard for data integrity

  • Working collaboratively with ACLU in-state staff

  • Working directly with the paid canvass team

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous community organizing or campaign experience

  • Highly organized and work at a fast pace

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience managing staff or volunteers and strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience with electoral work

  • Interest in civil liberties issues

  • Eagerness to contribute new ideas

  • Fluency in Spanish a must for Arizona

  • Will be responsible for safely and quickly getting to and from the office, meetings, events, and other area organizing activities.

  • Need to have personal laptop and cell phone

  • Personal experience with civil liberties issues, including the immigration and criminal justice systems, is preferred

The salary range for this position is $50-55K based on experience.
