Education Canvasser

The Education Canvasser is the front line on the effort to inform Maine voters about Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). Through a combination of door knocking and phone calling, the Canvasser will reach out to thousands of Mainers and have hundreds of conversations about RCV. Canvassers will empower supporters to get involved with the effort by recruiting volunteers and will have opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities

Through door-to-door and phone canvassing, gauges the level of knowledge and support for Ranked Choice Voting (70%).

On phones, averages 250 dials and 40 conversations per shift.

On doors, averages 100 knocks and 33 conversations per shift.

When confronted with a voter unknowledgeable about RCV, educates them on what the system is, and why it is important.

When confronted with a knowledgeable but undecided voter, persuades them to support RCV.

When confronted with a knowledgeable and supportive voter, recruits them to be a volunteer or otherwise get involved with the campaign.

Follows up with recruited volunteers, keeps them engaged and involved with the program (15%).

Trains regularly on canvassing and organizing to learn new skills and hone established ones (15%).

Qualifications

Great interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas.

Ability to stay organized when confronted with multiple tasks.

Energetic and passionate about RCV, even after hours of being on your feet.

Knowledgeable (or at least very willing to learn) about the political and electoral process in Maine.

Collaborative, team player. 

Good sense of humor is a plus.

Previous canvassing or campaign experience a plus, but not a requirement.
