Coming off the campaign trail? We've got the job for you!
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network is hiring a Healthy Communities Campaign Coordinator to fight ongoing fossil fuel pollution in Baltimore City and promote access to clean energy, especially for low-income Baltimoreans.
For twelve years, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) been dedicated exclusively to achieving bold climate solutions in the Chesapeake region of Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. We’re make the case to our region’s leaders that we can—and must—act now to build a clean energy future that benefits everyone. We’re building a diverse movement powerful enough to take on our region’s fossil fuel industry. And we’re helping communities already experiencing the terrifying impacts of climate change adapt to this warmer future.
Through CCAN’s Healthy Communities Campaign, we focus on some of the Maryland communities most disproportionately affected by our continued dependence on fossil fuels—the urban neighborhoods of Baltimore City. These communities, especially South Baltimore, have been plagued by dangerous urban pollution ranging from coal dust to power plant pollution to diesel truck traffic. Recently, South Baltimore residents have had to face yet another threat: a dramatic increase in dangerous crude oil trains rolling through their backyards. At the same time, Baltimore residents have limited access to clean energy solutions, including solar energy. There’s simply too much pollution in Baltimore, and too few clean energy options.
Over the next two years, CCAN’s goals for our Healthy Communities Campaign are to fight ongoing fossil fuel pollution in Baltimore City, including efforts to stop the increase in volatile crude oil trains that travel through downtown Baltimore to the Fairfield Peninsula in South Baltimore, while promoting solar power expansion in low-income neighborhoods in Baltimore.
CCAN’s Healthy Communities Campaign Coordinator will coordinate our ongoing campaign to fight crude oil trains and other fossil fuels in Baltimore—from building, training, and mobilizing our growing team of volunteers, to recruiting prominent community and business leaders to stand with us, to organizing creative actions that gain media attention and force city leaders to act. In addition to fighting pollution, our Healthy Communities Campaign Coordinator will launch our campaign to bring more solar projects to Baltimore and connect low-income Baltimore residents with those projects – from lobbying city and state officials, to building partnerships with community groups and the solar industry, to holding community meetings in neighborhoods across Baltimore to help residents learn how they can take advantage of existing solar programs and advocate for more.
