People's Climate Movement Volunteer Coordinator

The People's Climate Movement is looking to hire an energetic, organized and detail oriented person with great people skills to recruit, train and manage our volunteer base of the People's Climate March on April 29th as well as our PCM Week of Action on Climate, Jobs and Justice the preceding week.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for managing a massive volunteer operation for the PCM.  The march, mobilization and the week of action will require thousands of people to help. In the weeks before the march volunteers will be staff phone banks, canvassing, art and banner production, flyering and other kind of outreach. During the PCM Week of Action, our volunteers will help with scores of events that week, serving as greeters, guides, volunteer staff and other positions. On April 29th, we will need people to greet buses, marshall, transport and manage art work, set-up and clean up.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Working with field, digital and organizing staff to identify and recruit volunteers to sign up for PCM activities;
  • Set up an outreach, communication, and scheduling structure to fill volunteer shifts for outreach, weeks of action and day of the march
  • Set up, develop and run volunteer trainings
  • Coordinate and identify volunteer staffing needs of different parts of the PCM operation (art, security, set-up etc.)
  • Conduct follow up work with all volunteers who help out after the march 
The ideal candidate will have:
  • 2-3 years experience working on mass actions, campaigns, large events or other occasions that requires large number of volunteers
  • Have experience training, managing and supervising volunteers from a wide array and diverse set of backgrounds and cultures
  • Have strong computer, data-base and tech skills to manage data, produce lists, etc.
  • Be flexible, able to work in fast paced environments, and is a strong problem solver
  • Willing to work long hours - including evenings and weekends when most volunteers are available
  • Be a team player and able to work with different parts of the team
This position will be based out of Washington, DC.  The position is a contract position and will end on May 12th, 2017. Salary is DOE.
