The Position:
BHS seeks a Communications Specialist for
one of our non-profit clients. This candidate will need to have
progressive public relations experience, both regionally and nationally.
The candidate should be an energetic individual, contributor in the area
of Communications and plan to be an integral part of the non-profit client’s
team. He/she will have responsibility for development and execution of
communications programs and initiatives to maximize awareness and understanding
in line with the organization’s strategy. He/she will understand and maintain
relationships between both local and national press (TV, radio, web), as well
as internal key stakeholders within BHS. He/she will assist, work in tandem, or
complete projects independently with/for the non-profit’s President,
Development and program staff and Board of Directors.

You
will:
- Support and provide
Communications insight into the strategic direction for the development of
all press materials for public consumption that are designed to project a
favorable image of the organization
- Develop all communication
materials
- Support and work with local and
national media on policy campaigns, as well as a public event
- Produce both press materials
(i.e. press release, pitch letters, FAQs, talking points, etc.) for use on
nationwide state and local initiatives
- Provide direction, guidance and
assistance to BHS and the non-profit client’s staff in preparing speeches,
letters, and articles intended for public delivery
- Draft reports, proposals,
briefs, and PowerPoint decks, etc. for partnership presentations,
opportunities, and more
- Pitch stories to media and form
relationships with journalists for future needs
- Develop and maintain a network
of contacts within a range of print, broadcast, and electronic media
outlets
- Manage and respond to media
inquiries pertaining to our programs and campaigns
- Pitch proactively to media for
core organization initiatives
- Monitor media impressions and
metrics for core initiatives
You
need:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or work
experience in a related field strongly preferred with 5 years of relevant
experience
- Demonstrated creativity in
branding and messaging
- Demonstrated proficiency in
utilizing media monitoring tools
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to work independently
