YP4 Curriculum Consultant Request for Proposal

Statement of Purpose

Young People For is seeking to partner with a consultant to revamp its social justice training curriculum needed to successfully accomplish its mission to provide life-long social justice leadership training to unlock the potential of young people historically left out of opportunity.

For over 15 years, YP4’s curriculum has been a core part of the YP4 Fellowship experience and introduced Fellows to key social justice topics and issues along with the skills and tools necessary to implement change in their communities. YP4 staff, Alumni, and partners have made incremental changes and updates to the curriculum over the years building off the initial curriculum created more than 15 years ago.  Due to COVID, YP4 has decided to suspend the Fellowship where we will take an intentional pause to evaluate our programmatic structure and curriculum. We seek a consultant who will help take our curriculum to the next level and identify ways to make it relevant in an ever-changing world.

Background on YP4

Mission & Vision

Young People For (YP4) is a social justice incubator. We are a national network of black, brown, indigenous, disabled, and LGBTQ+ leaders in media, politics, business, government, and everywhere. We provide life-long social justice leadership training to unlock the potential of young people historically left out of opportunity.

We envision a world where our leaders are leading in all industries and are rooted in Social Justice values and solutions.

YP4 has been providing access to leadership training and resources for the last 15 years because we are committed to play the long game and invest in young people to create the world we dream of. We seek to transform the world by transforming who is leading in all industries. These are the goals that drive our organization – and we are working to achieve them through programming for Fellows, Alumni, and communities that have historically been ignored across the United States.

Values

Innovation, Respect, Integrity, Community and Sustainability.

Programing

Fellowship

The Young People For (YP4) Fellowship is a yearlong leadership development program for young people committed to creating positive social change in their communities. Fellows represent diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and approaches to social change, and they are working on many different issues on campuses and in communities across all 50 states and territories. During the yearlong Fellowship, Fellows create social impact projects called Blueprints for Social Justice. Fellows attend a Regional Training, the National Summit, and virtual trainings where they learn foundational social justice leadership skills through workshops, guest trainers, and discussions to better inform and support their Blueprints. Fellows are also paired with an Alumni Mentor to advance their leadership development and support them as they create their Blueprints for Social Justice.

Alumni

YP4’s leadership development model is rooted in a lifelong commitment to the young people who come through the Fellowship program. YP4 does not invest for a few months or even just a year; YP4 invests for a lifetime. A few of the many ways for Alumni to continue their engagement and leadership development with YP4 include serving as the class representative on the Alumni Council, attending the National Summit Alumni Track, and serving as a Mentor for the newest Fellowship class. After their Fellowship, Alumni receive opportunities and resources to advance their Blueprints for Social Justice through Blueprint tracking and Blueprint Showcases. Alumni also have access to external leadership development opportunities such as conference participation, speaking on panels, and writing for major news media outlets.

Civic Engagement

At the core of social justice is civic engagement, which YP4 ingrains in every aspect of our work. We engage Fellows, Alumni, and young people across the country in creating long-term, sustainable change in their communities by supporting and training them to interact with and reshape the institutions of political life in their communities. We support them in activities ranging from voter engagement, to advocacy, to policy crafting. One of our most recent Civic Engagement campaigns is The Building Power to Win Roadtrip. The Building Power to Win Road Trip is a multi-year initiative, to train young people across the country to center civic engagement in their communities by centering the issues they care about. We are multiplying efforts on the ground, by ensuring that young people who have been historically left out of training spaces, are equipped with the necessary tools and skills to increase their impact, right now. We are building a force of young people equipped to break down barriers to the ballot box and mobilize their communities to the polls. Not just for the next election, but for a lifetime.

At full capacity, we have a staff of 7 and serve a network of 2,000 people.

Key Outcomes
