Richmond, VA

Virginia Civic Engagement Table

The Virginia Progressive Leadership Project (VAPLP) is a leadership development program led by the Virginia Civic Engagement Fund (VCET) and New Virginia Majority Education Fund (NVMEF), in partnership with ProgressVA Education Fund and SEIU VA 512. The VAPLP was created with a dynamic, forward-thinking approach to identifying, recruiting, training and supporting a truly diverse group of grassroots leaders.

The VAPLP takes a bottom up approach to identifying, recruiting, training and supporting grassroots leaders to create their own path to leadership – for some that may include leading a new organization, for some it will include running for public office, for others it will be taking a leading role in advocating for change on a specific issue that they are passionate about.

We are seeking a self-motivated leader with a deep commitment to social and economic justice who will be responsible for running this program and overseeing it’s growth as we look to expand the program substantially. The Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director of the Virginia Civic Engagement Table and works closely with an advisory board made up of organizational partners from VCET.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with local community leaders and organizations to identify and recruit individuals for the program
  • Set program goals and regularly track metrics; report progress to Advisory Board on regular/pre-determined basis
  • Manage and run the day-to-day operations of the leadership program, including planning and executing all aspects of training weekends, coordinating the mentorship program, and working with the Advisory Board to identify additional program areas to further develop the leadership of the cohort
  • Work with trainers, consultants, and outside facilitators as needed to provide the most productive training environment and curriculum for the cohort
  • Conduct leadership assessments of each cohort member and help develop a leadership plan for each member
  • Develop alumni program to continue to build cohort connections and engage graduates in larger goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in program management, organizing or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Successful experience working in coalitions and ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders around a shared set of goals
  • Must be flexible, creative and assume high accountability for all areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines; able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy
  • Background and commitment to social and economic justice

Salary & Benefits: This position is full-time and is eligible for VCET’s full package of benefits, including medical and dental insurance and generous vacation. Salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $55,000 to $65,000.
