DEPUTY ORGANIZING DIRECTOR

Position Description
Aim Higher Now is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Deputy Organizing Director based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Deputy Organizing Director will manage regional staff who are focused on issue education advocacy, civic engagement, and building long-term organizing capacity within their region.
The Deputy Organizing Director will report to the Aim Higher Now Organizing Director. The Deputy Organizing Director will be responsible for supporting a set of Regional Organizing Directors in implementing the field plan in their regions. The Deputy Organizing Director will receive direct coaching from the Organizing Director and be provided opportunities for professional development.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
· Training, managing, and mentoring Regional Organizing Directors and regional staff.
· Conducting regular visits in the field to observe events and participate in phone banks and canvasses.
· Assisting in the creation of training programs and materials, while creating learning channels across the region to facilitate the sharing of best practices.
· Clearly communicating information and expectations to Regional Organizing Directors, while also communicating regional issues and themes up to the Organizing Director.
· Developing relationships with key community leaders, allied organizations and coalitions to build a base of support within the region.
· Implementing the Aim Higher Now culture that values staff and volunteers, invests in their professional development, and prepares them for long-term success.
Qualifications:
● An applicant’s approach to managing and coaching staff will be the primary criteria by which applications are evaluated.
● Previous experience in a staff management role and as an Organizer on either a political campaign or issue advocacy campaign.
● An understanding of targeting and metrics and experience with database management, including the VAN/VoteBuilder.
● Ability to build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, partners and allies and to cultivate those relationships over time.
● A general understanding of how power intersects with gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and class in organizing and electoral settings.
● Strong attention to detail and a pattern of consistently following through on commitments even during periods of increased workload.
● Demonstrated willingness to lead by example in setting a high standard for quality of work and professionalism.
● Demonstrated commitment to working in a team environment and doing everything possible to make the team successful.
● Access to a vehicle is required.
● Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary is required.
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $55,000. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
