PT Communications Specialist

Jobs to Move America seeks a Communications Specialist for a part-time, one
year position (continuation depending on available funding). We are hiring a talented communicator to
assist with our campaign for good jobs in transportation and manufacturing, by developing
external and internal communications collateral, contributing to campaign communications
strategy, building and sustaining relationships with media, and helping
organize public-facing communications initiatives.
The PT Communications
Specialist must work well with media, community organizations, labor unions and
companies in a fast-paced, progressive advocacy campaign environment. The PT Communications
Specialist will work report to the National Communications Specialist, and work
directly with other staff members as well as Jobs to Move America coalition
allies.
Jobs to Move America is a national project to make our transit
dollars go the distance --to build better, cleaner public transit systems, to
create and retain good manufacturing jobs, and to generate opportunities for
unemployed Americans like veterans, single parents, and residents of low-income
neighborhoods.
Responsibilities
Implement campaign and communications tactics, effective frame and messaging for campaign
Prepare and train spokespeople for media and campaign events
Develop compelling stories to be featured in public materials and media coverage
Plan and execute media events and initiatives
Pitch and place stories in media
Write media alerts, press releases, pitch letters and other media-friendly materials
Write and design social media and web content for campaign
Develop content, edit and manage design for all campaign materials -- talking points, fact sheets, reports, pamphlets, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, e-blast newsletters, etc.
If applicable (knowledge/experience with any of these skillsets is a plus): web page design and coding, website content management, graphic design with Adobe Creative Suite, animation or video production
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field and/or 2+ years communications, marketing, social media, journalism or public relations experience
Communications experience with political advocacy campaigns, nonprofits, in labor movement, or political, community organizing, strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability implement strategic communications tactics, craft persuasive messages
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Knowledge of social media
Intermediate/advanced digital media skills
Graphic design, web content skills a plus
Ability to anticipate needs and plan accordingly, coordinate complex activities, prioritize conflicting demands and meet deadline
Bilingual (written and conversational) in Spanish or second language a plus
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and coalition
Self-motivated, detail oriented, driven to succeed
Commitment to the mission and goals of the campaign, and strong demonstrated commitment to the needs and concerns of working families
Compensation: $20/hour based on 10 hours/week schedule, DOQ
