Families Against Mandatory Minimums - a dynamic and growing criminal justice reform organization with more than two decades of experience advocating for fairer sentencing laws – is hiring a Director of Organizing and Community Building to join the leadership team of a new state campaign launching in 2018. This is a role focused on shaping and managing the beginning of an organizing campaign with a heavy emphasis on coalition building and public engagement. The Director will manage all of the campaign’s efforts in the field. This will involve working with campaign leadership to develop and execute an engagement program that sets clear goals, establishes systems of accountability, and tracks progress-to- goal toward a range of objectives.
The Director will also be responsible for designing a training curriculum for staff and volunteers. The position will require poise and comfort dealing with the FAMM leadership team, leaders from local partner organizations, and organizers in states. The prime candidate will be passionately committed to our mission, able to think strategically and act pragmatically, willing to work with anyone who can help (regardless of party or ideology), and creative about bringing the stories, data, and facts about federal sentencing and prisons to state legislators, Congress, the media, and the general public.
