Press Assistant

The Deval For All campaign is seeking a press assistant who is passionate about sharing the campaign’s vision, works well in fast-paced environments, and can effectively communicate within our team and across departments. As part of our Communications Team, you will help facilitate our campaign’s conversation with the public. We work to highlight the campaign’s message, elevate and amplify stories of everyday Americans, and provide support to our teams across the country.

The desired candidate will work with the press team to handle daily tasks critical to the workflow of the press org. They will be responsible for daily press clippings, booking and scheduling of press hits, and dealing with internal logistics. They will also be expected to monitor the news, track candidate appearances, and transcribe occasional speeches.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Work with the Communications team for message cohesion across departments, information distribution channels, and created content

• Manage day-to-day communications execution, including media monitoring, pitching, and reporter outreach, among others

• Track relevant local and national news coverage and develop rapid response programming

• Assist in planning and executing events and media interviews, including principal and surrogate staffing

• Draft press releases, statements, advisories, talking points and other materials as needed

• Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

• Have 2+ years political communications experience, as well as campaign experience

• Have on-the-record experience, and a track record of developing reporter relationships and getting positive stories placed in local news 

• Truly value a diversity of experiences and voices, you know it positively impacts outcomes, and you can point to times you've demonstrated this personally and professionally.

• Have a passion for the news and love tracking stories as they develop

• Work well under pressure and can maintain confidentiality in all that you do

• Are a driven problem solver who simply gets things done

  • Value timeliness and understand the importance of capitalizing on a news cycle - no matter the time of day
