No Freaking Phonograph

Got my copy of remastered Dry Dreams. As with remastered Catholic Boy I can’t listen to it because I don’t have a functioning phonograph.

Oh well.

I have the three JCB LPs on vinyl from back in the day, but our turntable isn't set up, and the records are all in boxes. This is from a move that took place seven years ago. Yes, you read that correctly! I'm a bit disorganized. 

I listen to Catholic Boy and Dry Dreams, as well as Praying Mantis and Pools of Mercury, on Tidal streaming. I don't know why I Write Your Name isn't available there.

I'm glad to hear from people in this group again. Who is still here? (Hi from Texas!) Thanks to Sandra, I've been exploring Jim Carroll's work again. I had a turntable decades ago. These days, I listen to music either on CD or streaming services.

Recently, I pulled my copy of Forced Entries from the shelf and have been reading along while Jim reads sections aloud.

What’s exciting is that Dry Dreams has been remastered. Unlike Catholic Boy, which was recorded and mastered by the best in the business, Dry Dreams was not recorded under ideal conditions and lacked the mastery of Bob Clearmountain. (In other words, management cheaped out.) Bass player Steve Linsley had thought it was unfixable, but once he got mucking around in it he discovered it was! So I am really looking forward to hearing this new version from Fat Possum!

I haven’t heard the remastered Catholic Boy either.

I can tell even on Tidal that  Dry Dreams isn't as good a recording as Catholic Boy.

I'm still here...Jeremiah, from West Virginia. I love Jim Carroll, besides Poe and Chris Bursk, he's my favorite writer. Jim probably shaped my writing more than any other Writer. 
I just don't interact much, because 1. I always feel like im asking stupid questions/getting on people nerves. 2. I have next to nothing in JC archive or memorabilia; actually I have nothing. 

I have all of his books that are readily accessible. I dont have organic Trains, but God I'd give anything to get an original copy of that chapbook. 
Of course i have all the poems besides "11 TRAINS " in  the penguin FEAR OF DREAMING COLLECTION. 

Jim taught me that the street life could be turned into an esthetic art form....My homelessness and addiction has been different than his in many ways; but I'll always find comfort in "FOR ELIZABETH" ; "MAYBE I'M AMAZED"  "THE NARROWS"  THAT ONE POEM WHERE HE TALKS ABOUT BEING ON A BEACH IN WINTER/WITH SHARKS LOOKING FOR BLOOD. 
     "8 FRAGMENTS FOR KURT COBAIN"  "JUST VISITING"    THE ONE WHERE HE SAYS.  "FEMALE AS THUNDER/ THE AIR A....."     THE 8 PAGE POEM IN HIS LAST COLLECTION, THE VOID OR WHATEVER. 

These are all top of the line works of Poetic literature for me....AND TO BE HONEST, I DONT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE WHAT HES ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT IN ANY OF THEM; BUT I FEEL THAT SHIT IN MY SOUL.
