Dear Jewish languages list,

I’m sad to share news of the death of Professor Bernard Dov Spolsky, a major leader in the fields of Jewish languages, language policy, and sociolinguistics. The death notice from his beloved wife, Ellen, is below. בצער רב אנו מודיעים על פטירתו של פרופסור ברנרד דב ספולסקי ז״ל בשבת, כ״ג אב (20.8.22).

ההלוויה תתקיים ביום ראשון (21.8.22), בשעה 10:00 בבוקר

בבית ההספד קהילת ירושלים בהר המנוחות.

המשפחה תשב שבעה עד שבת בבית משפחת ספולסקי בירושלים,

רחוב נילי 4, דירה 7 בשעות: 8:00-13:00, 16:00-21:00.

שחרית בשעה 8:00

מנחה וערבית בשעה 19:00

We are deeply saddened to announce that Professor Bernard Dov Spolsky passed away surrounded by family today on Shabbat, כ״ג אב, August 20. The levaya will be held tomorrow, Sunday, 10:00 am, בית ההספד קהילת ירושלים, הר המנוחות , in Jerusalem.

Shiva will be held at Dov and Ellen Spolsky’s home until Shabbat: 

Rechov Nili 4, Apt 7. 

Hours: 8:00-13:00; 16:00-21:00. Shacharit at 8:00 am; Mincha/Maariv at 19:00. 

With deep sadness, the Spolsky, Amaru, Sterne, Thomas and Wulkan families.
