Not able to connect to git repo

I am trying to connect to a git repo associated with a google appengine project.The repo url is -

https://source.developers.google.com/p/whirlpool-whitepages/.

I have enabled the git-plugin but when i try to add this repo it gives me following error -

Failed to connect to repository : Failed to create http proxy uri.

I have tried the links come up after google search on this but that won't work.Can anyone please help me on this. Is the plugin not meant for accepting such urls ?
