Pipeline groovy script git checkout on master workspace

Hi, currently we see Pipeline groovy script git checkout on master workspace, is there a way to avoid this?

If you're using the github branch source provider, I believe it uses GitHub API calls to avoid checkout on the master.

If you're using "vanilla git", then there isn't a way to avoid that checkout, since "vanilla git" does not provide a way to request a single file from a repository.
