multi-configuration job with git not showing tags

Hi, 

I'm deploying git to all my slaves and using a multi-config job where i've selected multiple slaves.  I'm able to deploy successfully.  When I try to build with parameters, it just hangs with "retrieving git references".  If I choose build, it will build but no tags show up.  It works on a single slave machine however.  Any ideas why this wouldn't work?
