Jenkins AbstractTrigger checkIfModified method called multiple times

Hi,

We have a requirement where poll has to be done to DB, check some conditions and based on conditions satisfied trigger a build. So we have extended "AbstractTrigger" class and overriden "checkIfModified" method.
But what is noticed is the method is being called multiple times within a minute even though the cron expression is set to poll every minute. Its not very consistent on how many times a minute, has anyone faced this before? Could someone help.
