The POM for org.jenkins-ci.tools:maven-hpi-plugin:jar:3.6 is missing
Issue Type: Task Task
Assignee: Danielle Jenkins
Components: splunk-devops-plugin
Created: 2019-11-30 11:59
Environment: Windows Environment
Priority: Major Major
Reporter: Hemnaath Govartan

I am trying to ingest Jenkins events into splunk based on this link https://wiki.jenkins.io/display/JENKINS/Splunk+Plugin+for+Jenkins, based on document, I have gone through the steps, and downloaded the Zip file from the git repository splunk-devops-plugin-master and when tried to execute the mvn package command I am getting the above error message.

Note: I am not a developer and new to Jenkins and my intention is to ingest Jenkins Events into splunk. Please do guide me how to package the jar file using the splunk-devops-plugin-master.

Hi Ted,

 I am new to this forum and also not a developer,my intention is to ingest Jenkins Events into splunk, based on the Wiki document, I had tried to create a Jar file by installing Maven and executed the mvn package command but system was throwing error which I have attached for your reference. Please do guide me how to package the jar file using the splunk-devops-plugin-master.

If you are not a developer and you just want to try it out, please use the update center to download

https://jenkins.io/doc/book/managing/plugins/

The simplest and most common way of installing plugins is through the Manage Jenkins > Manage Plugins view, available to administrators of a Jenkins environment.

Hi Ted Xiao,

Thanks for guiding me on this, now I am able to install the plugin and communicate with Splunk instance from Jenkins by clicking the Test Connection.  But now I am facing another issue, as per the documentation I have  configured  the Jenkins plugin for meta data, but unable to see any data via Splunk App for Jenkins. I had followed the below steps.

Steps:

Installed Java 1.8 version in 64 bit Windows Platform.

Installed Jenkins-2.190.3 in 64 bit windows Platform.

Splunk Enterprise 7.3 (Single instance deployment method).

Installed Splunk App for Jenkins 2.0.

Created HEC token in splunk.

Configured Splunk plugin for Jenkins.

Test Connection --> Splunk connection Verified.

Validating the connection checking the Splunk console and able to see the below events information when we perform "Test Connection"

12/9/19
10:04:25.036 PM ping from jenkins plugin raw event ping
host = xxxxx source = http:jenkins sourcetype = text:jenkins

Configured custom metadata -->
Data Source --> Build Event
Config Item --> Index
Value --> Customer_index

Could you please throw some lights on this or let me know from where I can trouble shoot this issue.

    For Splunk version 6.5 or later, it is recommended to use the plugin's{color:red} default config{color}
    For Splunk 6.3.x or 6.4.x, please adjust the default sourcetype to json:jenkins:old (please remove it if Splunk get upgraded to latest version otherwise data will be extracted twice)

custom metadata is for advanced users who build app themself, you do not need it. please
move remove the custom metadata
